Managing farms and collections
A farm in EcoStac
is a grouping of adjacent land areas, which you can manage and produce insight for as a whole. For example, when you generate a report on soil carbon stocks and other land metrics, you will be able do so for one farm at a time. Farms can be grouped into collections.
Farms and collections can be accessed by clicking on the corresponding button in the leftmost sidebar (under Sandbox). When accessing this view for the first time you will be see only one collection in the sidebar, called "Uncategorized". You can either click on this collection to use it as the active collection when creating farms, or create a new collection by clicking on "Add Collection".
The "Uncategorized" collection
is the default collection. It contains all farms which are not manually placed into a user-defined collection. As such, this collection cannot be deleted. If another collection is deleted while containing farms, all of its farms are moved to the "Uncategorized" collection automatically.
Once inside a collection, you can click on the "Add Farm" button at the bottom of the left sidebar to create a new farm, or if you have already done so, click on one of the available farms in the sidebar to enter the Farm view.
The Farm/Collection view and accompanying functionality
are only available to registered accounts. Please refer to the Registration guide to find out how to sign up for an account.
Managing farm geometry
Farm geometry in EcoStac is defined by polygons called Inclusion areas and Exclusion areas.
Inclusion areas
What is an inclusion area?
Definition
An Inclusion area is a plot of part of a plot of land which you own and would like to manage with EcoStac.
A farm may consist of several inclusion areas. To define one or more inclusion areas, click on the "Inclusion Areas" button in the sidebar when in Farm view. Once there, you can define an inclusion area by either drawing it (click on the "Draw" button at the bottom of the sidebar and proceed to drawing a polygon in the same manner as in the Sandbox), or by uploading one or more areas from a file.
Area file uploads
are subject to few but strict requirements. Please refer to the Area file upload restrictions section.
Exclusion areas
What is an exclusion area?
An exclusion area is part of a farm geometry definition, but excluded from any data operations and reporting.
Definition
An Exclusion area is an area on your plot of land that does not make sense for monitoring, such as buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Any portions of inclusion areas that overlap with exclusion areas will be excluded from the farm definition during data operations or reporting.
To define one or more exclusion areas, click on the "Exclusion Areas" button in the sidebar when in Farm view. From there, exclusion areas can be manage identically to inclusion areas.
